National Renewable Gas Policy: Consultation Paper Released
An important step towards unlocking a major domestic opportunity

The Australian Government has today released a consultation paper on the policy settings needed to unlock Australia's renewable gas potential - a key milestone Bioenergy Australia's Renewable Gas Alliance (RGA) has been advocating for and sees as an important step forward for the sector.

The consultation delivers on a commitment made through the Energy and Climate Change Ministerial Council to progress a National Renewable Gas policy approach, in collaboration with state and territory governments.

Why This Matters

The RGA has been working closely with the Australian Government to advocate for dedicated policy settings to build a competitive domestic renewable gas industry that can:

  • Support project development
  • Attract investment
  • Bridge the price gap with conventional gas
  • Accelerate renewable gas adoption across Australia

These policy settings should now be progressed at pace, sending a clear signal that renewable gas is a priority sector for Australia, now and into the future.

What's Next

The RGA will now prepare a submission in response to the consultation, working closely with members to bring together industry views on the policy settings needed to support the growth of renewable gas in Australia.
