Purpose of the Alliance

The purpose of the Queensland Renewable Fuels Alliance (QRFA) is to accelerate the strategic development and deployment of renewable diesel (RD), sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), and renewable natural gas (RNG) industries in Queensland by:

  • Creating a unified voice for Queensland's renewable fuels industry
  • Supporting the Queensland Government's objectives to establish Queensland as an Asia-Pacific biofuels hub
  • Facilitating collaboration across the entire value chain from feedstock to end-user
  • Identifying and addressing barriers to industry growth specific to Queensland
  • Enhancing fuel security and economic diversification in Queensland, particularly in regional areas

Objectives of the Alliance

1. Advocacy and Policy Development

  • Assist in the development of advocacy strategies specific to RD, SAF, and RNG production and deployment in Queensland
  • Advise State and Commonwealth Governments on policy settings, incentives, and regulatory frameworks needed to support industry development
  • Provide input on Queensland-specific opportunities within national policy frameworks
  • Support the development of certification schemes and standards

2. Industry Development

  • Provide advice on opportunities and challenges for the renewable fuels sector in Queensland
  • Identify and address barriers preventing industry acceleration in the state
  • Drive forward investment opportunities in Queensland's renewable fuels sector
  • Support the development of integrated supply chains from feedstock to distribution
  • Promote technology innovation and deployment

3. Feedstock and Infrastructure

  • Drive development of sustainable feedstock supply chains, working closely with Queensland's agriculture sector
  • Identify opportunities to leverage existing infrastructure (refineries, ports, distribution networks)
  • Support regional economic development through renewable fuels projects
  • Advise on feedstock expansion opportunities across Queensland regions

4. Knowledge Sharing and Capability Building

  • Share best practices, research findings, and market intelligence
  • Identify knowledge gaps and recommend studies or programs to address them
  • Support workforce development and skills training initiatives
  • Facilitate connections between research institutions and industry

4. Collaboration and Engagement

  • Foster collaboration between feedstock providers, technology developers, refiners, distributors, and end-users
  •  Facilitate partnerships between industry and research institutions
  • Build relationships with relevant Queensland Government departments and agencies
  • Contribute to the preparation of submissions to government on behalf of Queensland industry
  • Advise on opportunities and focus areas for events, programs, and campaigns relevant to Queensland
