BIOENERGY AUSTRALIA WEBINAR SERIES

Global Transitions to Cleaner Fuels

There has been a rapid increase over the last year in the number of governments pledging to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero. Net zero pledges to date from over 130 countries cover around 70% of global GDP and CO2 emissions.

Notably Australia is yet to commit to a net zero target at this stage, however with over 70 per cent of our trade with nations committed to net-zero emissions, pressure is growing.

The IEA has recently released a key report, Net Zero by 2050 - A Roadmap for the Global Energy Sector. This report gives guidance on how energy demand and the energy mix will need to evolve if the world is to achieve net‐zero emissions by 2050 and the implications for the economy, the energy industry, citizens, and governments.

America has recently released their own country specific report Net Zero America exploring options for America to meet the target. A similar privately sponsored two year study NZAu has recently been launched in Australia.

Timothy Goodson and Praveen Bains of the International Energy Agency (IEA) will present the findings of the Net Zero by 2050 report, including the proposed mix of technology pathways and wider implications.

Chris Greig, Senior Research Scientist, Princeton University will present on the Net-Zero America study including the blueprint for the next decade and the six technology pillars to support the transition to net-zero emissions by 2050.

Dr. Felix Leach, Associate Professor of Engineering Science at University of Oxford and co-author of Racing Toward Zero: The Untold Story of Driving Green will present on the books message, that the future requires a balanced approach to transportation.  It’s not a matter of choosing between combustion or electrification; it’s combustion and electrification. As the authors say, “The future is eclectic.”

Overall this webinar will ask, what role does bioenergy (specifically biofuels) have in achieving net zero by 2050 and what needs to be done now to have a significant impact over the next 20 years?
Moderated by Keith Sharp from TfA Project Group make sure you register for the event.
